This week was about different forms of love.

Dear Spotify, we’re breaking up. This toxic relationship has been going on for too long and I rediscovered my love for music and for my old collection.

Some people are loving the new OpenAI o1 model

Open AI announced their new o1 model capable of chain-of-thought reasoning.

My friend @Rui Carmo is not impressed and had this to add.

The potential of OpenAI’s o1 to provide explainability, the ability to make its internal processes understandable to end users, is being overlooked by early commentators. The chain-of-thought demonstrations alone are not impressive, but their absence could limit OpenAI’s application potential. A common issue in customer discussions is the lack of auditability in AI models and the difficulty in automating complex processes with them.

It’s now undeniable that there won’t be an AI to rule them all. Instead, we will need to learn how to pick and use different AI agents, or chains of agents, to perform specific tasks. We need to go into a polyamorous relationship with AI.

Notice that we are still not satisfied with AI for personal writing.

Your own news assistant

My friend @Sérgio Bernardino came up with an Apple Shortcut to read the news using the free service from NewsAPI. It reads the last 5 headlines of the day to you.

You can find it here https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/2a7cf9167a97481f84a88f805b86efe1

Some assembly is required, you need to sign up for NewsAPI and add the API key to the shortcut.
